Overview
Traumatic histories, both familial and national, are all too often wrapped in silence, blame or shame. For as long as they remain unresolved, their impact can be transmitted to the next generations with disruptive or even tragic outcomes. For much of the first half of her life, Angela Findlay struggled with inexplicable symptoms. It was only when she began to look to her German roots embedded in Nazi Germany and WW2 that she found their source. She employed many methods, from research and art to dialogue and ritual, to explore and heal her family’s unprocessed past traumas and deeds. In this webinar she will share the steps she took that could help others struggling with their own histories.

Angela Findlay
ANGELA FINDLAY is an Anglo-German artist, author, blogger and public speaker. An early career as an artistic therapist in prisons in Germany and later as Arts Co-ordinator for the London-based Koestler Arts charity informed her research into the intergenerational consequences of unresolved guilt, shame and trauma. Extensive studies of the broader topic of post-conflict remembrance, resolution and reconciliation led Angela to explore the impact of her own German roots as granddaughter of a decorated Wehrmacht general in WW2. By breaking the silence surrounding her family’s unprocessed past, Angela uncovered a way through a painful history. For two decades, she has lectured and written on the topic. Her first book, In My Grandfather’s Shadow, was published by Penguin Transworld in July 2022. www.angelafindlaytalks.com
